Best Practices

1
Criterion 1     D.3.3. Landscaping
Description
'Eleonas Hotel is located in a Greek olive grove, stands on a hill surrounded by trees planted 100 years ago by the family, in the island of Evia. The owner wanted to preserve the natural beauty and the history of the area.
The landscaping was designed by Dr. Anastasia Ioannidou-Akoumianakis from the Laboratory of Floriculture and Landscape Architecture, Agricultural University of Athens, with domestic plants that have low water requirements. Basic principle was to not disturb the environment and not replace with the other species.
To build the hostel, 5 olive trees have been moved and with their roots. The inclination of the land has not been changed and can not be plowed but is passed with trimmer every Spring and Summer.'
