Case Description
The Lis Aganis Ecomuseum represents a new cultural model to promote and to increase the value of a homogeneous area’s cultural and natural heritage. It differentiates from other museum types since it is a process that is carried out with the local community.

Description
The Lis Aganis Ecomuseum aims to strengthen the bond between the local population and its territory, its history, minor cultures, traditions and old professions. The ecomuseum’s main target are firstly local inhabitants, then tourists who want to find out about rural mountain areas that have maintained their cultural and natural peculiarities. By involving associations, municipalities and youths in the project, their sense of belonging to the territory has increased and new job opportunities have been created that are linked to the organization of cultural events, local craftsmanship, sustainable and didactical tourism.17 public bodies, 18 cultural associations, 2 school administrations are now part of the ecomuseum. They have learned to know each other and to cooperate together to increase the value of the area. It has become a meeting place for resources and different stakeholders who have understood that such co-operation is necessary for territorial development.

Description
The Ecomuseum promotes an environmental awareness which aims at cultural conservation as well as natural conservation and the conservation of local architecture. There have been environmental education activities, restoration of locations and and buildings made with original techniques and materials thanks to the competence of the older people who have chosen to cooperate with the ecomuseum.The activities are carried out by involving local communities as much as possible, their knowledge and abilities are at the service of the population and the tourists. This is especially the case of workshops about old professions, which are held by older people from the local population.17 public bodies, 18 cultural associations, 2 school administrations are now part of the ecomuseum.
